A programme of specialist training and development to equip south east performing arts companies with the skills and knowledge they need to work successfully abroad, specifically those companies chosen to contribute to the international assembly in May 2008, but also to a wider group of artists interested in working abroad.

Assembly route

One to one expert sessions
Each company will be paired with a caravan expert and will be offered four sessions between November and April to explore how they develop their international work. The first of these sessions will be a reality check. The company have the option to use one session to bring in a different specialist knowledge area – as appropriate – marketing, logistics, etc.

Open Seminars
In addition to their one to one sessions - all assembly companies will be offered free places on the Euclid Seminar, Visiting Arts – DCMS road-show and a session at ACE on how to work internationally with G4A. These days will be run in between November and April in a range of locations across the region including Oxford, Eastleigh, Brighton and Southampton.

About the trainers
Andrew Jones is currently a Drama and Dance Adviser for the British Council specifically working in Central & Eastern Europe, Scandinavia and Central Asia. He has been involved in the organisation of all of the BC Edinburgh Showcases and was previously Co-Artistic Director of Volcano Theatre Company.

Gary Hills is based in Brussels and London. For many years his company Theatre Factory promoted tours of British theatre in Belgium. He has worked with UK Trade & Investment and the PAID group to improve export opportunities for the performing arts and also works as an ITC trainer, running the Touring Abroad courses. He is currently working as a consultant with Arts Council England.

Jane Clare is the General Manager of English Touring Theatre and worked previously for Shared Experience, both of whom tour extensively abroad.
